Marriage is a covenant. When I perform weddings, I always make the distinction between covenant relationships and other relationships. Some of our relationships are predicated on getting the best deal. So sometimes we choose different grocery stores or restaurants based upon price and value. Covenant relationships are long-term “no matter what” commitments. God made covenants with his people Israel. After Malachi called God’s people to give their very best in worship, he spoke to them about two covenants: one between priest and people and one between husbands and wives. Israel had faithlessly violated their covenants but still expected God to fulfill his promises to them. Our relationships with each other directly reflect and affect our relationship with God. God is faithful to his covenants. Are we faithful to him? Are we keeping the faith in our family relationships?
