Opposing forces are at work in our world, community, families, and church. Centrifugal forces, like shear winds, tear at the fabric of our families, our churches, and our country. Anxiety leads us to fight or flight or freeze responses. Like Jeremiah, we may just want to run away. Or we may want to fight. For others, paralysis sets in. But there is another greater force at work in the church today. The Holy Spirit acts as a centripetal force, drawing God’s people closer to God and to each other. Which force will prevail in your life and mine? Let it be the Spirit of unity!
