Silence teaches us to listen closely. If we lost the ability to speak for a season, what would we say when our voices were restored? After nine months of silence, Zechariah didn’t just have to say something. He actually had something to say. In Luke’s songs from the first Christmas, Zechariah, the father of John, does not speak first of his son but of God. He sings a song of God’s redemption and shows our response. John would prepare the way to point us to God’s perfect Peace who is Jesus. God is speaking in his word. Are we listening?
