As we continue to live in the land of the dying, where is our hope? Israel’s hope had been cut off by exile. Then God gave Ezekiel a vision of dry bones and told him to preach. As Ezekiel obeyed, God brought the bones to life by the power of his Holy Spirit and promised to resurrect Israel’s dead hopes. When will these verses be fulfilled for us? Old Testament prophecies offer a three-fold fulfillment. Israel returned from exile. When Christ arose from the dead, he confirmed the reality of life after death. He has given us new birth into a living hope. When Christ returns the dead will rise first and then those who are alive will join them to live forever in a new heaven and a new earth. Welcome to resurrection hope.
