Music Ministry
Music touches people as they approach God and begin to worship. Our music ministry offers opportunities for all age groups to worship and grow in spirit through the expression of music.
Tallowood's Adult Choir
The Tallowood Adult Choir is an exciting place to serve right now. We are in the process of building a new worship facility and music suite which will enable us to accommodate our membership of approximately 200+ people. Dr. Allen Hightower has recently been called to serve as the new Minister of Music and Worship at Tallowood. He has been serving as the Interim Minister, and is not only challenging us through beautiful and biblically sound music, he is calling us to higher praise of Jesus Christ, of whom and to whom we sing.
Now is a great time to come and visit rehearsals, which take place every Wednesday evening in Fellowship Hall East from 7:15 until 8:45, with a nursery provided. No tryouts are necessary—only a love for the Lord and ability to sing. When you come, you will be greeted by friendly choir members who will quickly get you settled with music and seated next to someone who will help you through the rehearsal. Be prepared to have a good time working hard together on the many different styles of music we are getting ready to sing for worship or other events such as Easter, Summer Night of Gospel Music, or Festival of Carols, our Christmas celebration. When you join our choir, you may select one or more of three worship services in which to sing, 8:00, 9:30 or 11:00.
Sonlight, The High School Choir
It is our desire at Tallowood to raise up a generation of high school youth who sincerely worship. As with other music ensembles at Tallowood, Sonlight is committed to excellence, to learning how to worship God through musical expression, and to having a good time doing all of that. This choir is directed by Associate Minister of Music and Worship, Randy Kilpatrick. The choir has traveled extensively on mission tours tours including United States , Canada , Great Britain , Switzerland and Hungary.
Sonlight, which meets on Sunday afternoons at 4:30-5:40 in Fellowship Hall East, leads in worship services monthly.
Heartlight, the 6th, 7th & 8th grade choir
Heartlight is one of Tallowood's student choirs. This choir rehearses every Wednesday night in the choir room, which is directly behind the Worship Center, from 5:55 until 6:55. The group goes on a weekend choir tour each spring and they conclude the year each May with a "Foyer Concert." This group is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students without an audition.
Graded Choirs at Tallowood
Every child who attends a graded choir at Tallowood Baptist Church will be guided through musical, spiritual, physical and social activities, which stimulate their desire to a pure heart, good conscience and a sincere faith in Jesus Christ.
At Tallowood children begin at age three to experience Bible truths through singing, moving, rhythm, steady beat, creating, and team work. Each year builds on the last and is a very important step to worship leadership and participation. Children are encouraged to participate joyfully at every age.

The Tallowood Orchestra
The Tallowood Orchestra began in the fall of 1999. Participation is open to experienced instrumentalists, high school age through adult. Rehearsals are each Sunday following Evening Worship, and the orchestra currently performs one Sunday morning per month (all three traditional worship hours).
Each January, the TBC Orchestra hosts a workshop, inviting a guest clinician to rehearse the orchestra on Saturday, then lead the orchestra in worship the following morning. Recent clinicians have included Dr. Tom Webster (East Texas Baptist Universtity), Lee Poquette (arranger), and William "Mac" Davis (Southwestern Seminary).
Curtis Lawson, Director of Instrumental Music, is the conductor of the ensemble.

Tallowood Jazz Band - "The Messengers"
The Tallowood Jazz Band was formed in the spring of 2003. The ensemble is open by audition as seats become available. Two formats currently exist: a 16-piece big band, and a 7-piece combo. The band plays original compositions by its members as well as published arrangements of hymns and popular music.
The Jazz Band and Combo often perform away from Tallowood at local churches and community events. They recently shared the stage with Pat Boone at Luis Palau's CityFest Houston Generations Rally, and will take a mission trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the summer of 2007.
Curtis Lawson, Director of Instrumental Music, is the director of the ensemble.

The Doorpost Songs CD
The Doorpost Songs is a collection of scripture set to lively, stirring music. Its primary purpose is to pass the Word of God on to the next generation, in the same way that Deuteronomy 6 exhorts God's people to teach His commandments to their children and write His words on their doorposts. Sung by David and Jessica Ray, and many of Tallowood's own children, The Doorpost Songs is an exciting, creative way to teach Scripture.
